Every year in our blues bar, we celebrate the only black holiday in America... Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, Birthday.
So, Happy King Day, y'all!
It is a celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It is a celebration of a people... a black people... who were brought over to this country as slaves... and emancipated by a Civil War.
It is a celebration of a struggle for liberty, justice and equality for black people that ALL people benefited from in this country.
It is a celebration of a promise that "We Shall Overcome" it all... the countless murders, the brutal beatings, the savage rapes and torture, the peaceful nonviolent marches for civil rights that were ravaged by vicious police dogs, billy clubs, the stinging spray of tear gas and fire hoses, burning crosses and Klu Klux Klansmen.
It is a celebration of the changes that have come... and are yet to come.
It is a celebration of a dream... and a dreamer!
It is a celebration of our black people's stake in America... and our right to not only Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, dream of liberty, justice and equality... but our right to the American dream of prosperity and the pursuit of happiness!
And as we gather to join in this King Day Celebration...
Remember all those who rose up for our people... who died and struggled... all the way back to the slave boat...
And honor their courageous sacrifice... every time you walk into a ballot booth to VOTE!
